Do I need a high-end gaming laptop or just something average?

Not long ago, I made a thread for my new laptop and decided on the Clevo P650SE. But after digging further, I shifted my eyes to the Clevo P670SE with this configuration: Full HD IPS screen, GTX 970M, i7-4720HQ, HyperX 16GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (is this good RAM?) at $1,492, and yes, this is high-end to me.

This is a few thing I want from my laptop. I will certainly play League of Legends and DotA 2 and the Clevo P670SE would be overkill for these games....

Hi guys,

I decided to experiment with ThrottleStop (never tried it before). What it did was a reset of some of my XTU settings (clocks, voltage..) when i clicked the turn on button in ThrottleStop. Now my temps are ~10 degrees higher that they used to be. What exactly did ThrottleStop change in my system? Again, i only pressed turn on/turn off.

I reset my bios to defaults, restored my previous XTU settings, and yet the result is the same, +10 C to my CPU temps...

Recently my laptop Sager np8250 suddenly started experiencing issues where it will randomly shutdown and restart. This is also paired with an issue where when trying to turn it on or restarting it will only startup for long enough to lightup the backlit keyboard and various other led's for a second before shutting back down.

I'm in the market for a new graphics card for my M17x R4 as the 7970m that came with it has died and I don't wish to play games trying to reflow it. Few years ago I installed the 5870m in my M17x, running happily ever since, mostly due to the fact I wasn't playing any particularly taxing games, so most of the times the gpu fan wasn't required. I am a noob around here. I have purchased PE4C V2.1 adapter and nVidia Quadro K620 graphic card. I have Lenovo ThinkPad T410. I have been following tutorials on YouTube how to set up eGPU, and to every tutorial graphic card is always detected, but not mine. In Device Manager I cannot find my graphic card.

best macbook specs for my money & purpose?

I want to buy a Macbook Pro (a 2014 or 2015 model) to run Windows via Bootcamp. This will be my primary laptop and it'll have lots of videos, photos, music, etc occupying a lot of space, so I'll be getting a large hard drive. I'm not a gamer at all.

What's most important when it comes to the RAM/processors for this to run Windows (probably Windows 10) smoothly? Would an i7 Processor be worth the extra ~$200?

Since I received this computer in march of 2014 I have had the same issue with the backlit keyboard colors no matter what the drivers used. When it boots up it defaults to blue (alienwares did this too) but when I get to windows it changes the keys to green but the touchpad and power button stay blue despite settings being all green. I then have to manually change it so that everything is what it is set to.

This happens everytime and to be honest is extremely frustrating. Will post a video...

On my new laptop with Windows 8, I find that my laptop restores operation significantly quicker with sleep vs. hiberate. So I'm prefering sleep vs hibernate when running on AC, and on battery power.
Other than a very small drain on my battery when my laptop is closed and in my bag for a few hours,

Data security during laptop repair

Recently bought a new laptop with an extended warranty.
Wondering if when a laptop needs to be sent in to the manufacturer for a repair (specifically a hardware repair),
is it ok to remove the hard drive when sending it in?
I don't want to risk my data (security) while in transit and out of my hands.
Nor do I want to delete sensitive files and restore them when my laptop is restored.

The original 500GB WD Blue drive still spins, but, I'm starting to mistrust it. And - if nothing else - it's slow.

Hi, all, my notebook is Fujitsu LH532, I have upgraded the lan card to Broadcom BCM94352HMB, I am using the Netgear R6300 v2, with win 8.1.
Before the upgrade, for lan network, the speedtest for dowload >800m, for upload >800m, but after the upgrade, the lan network is only 400m for dl, and 800m for upload, and for wifi, is it very very low, only 130m for dl and 200m for upload.
I have updated the 8.1 driver of Broadcom BCM94352HMB and for the lan Realtek PCIe GBE...

Looking to get a new laptop and I don’t know where to start, given my disappointment with previous laptops.

I’m a student and I use my laptop A LOT. It is typically on for 16 hours a day, but I'm usually close to a charger.

I typically use it for heavy productivity; I will almost always have 10+ Google Chrome tabs open, multiple Word Documents, PowerPoints, spreadsheets etc… when I am researching and writing reports, preparing presentations etc... I also do a lot of typing...

I just bought a 24 inches Samsung TV, a logitech mouse and keyboard. I have plugged my laptop via HDMI to my TV. Windows is set to not turn off PC when lid is closed.

Basically, this is my setup :




Problems :

1. Wifi stops working (Speed around 1mbps) when lid is closed. Wifi adapter does the same too.
2. Touchpad gets alive. The cursor moves sometime on its own.

Not long ago, I made a thread for my new laptop and decided on the Clevo P650SE. But after digging further, I shifted my eyes to the Clevo P670SE with this configuration: Full HD IPS screen, GTX 970M, i7-4720HQ, HyperX 16GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (is this good RAM?) at $1,492, and yes, this is high-end to me.

This is a few thing I want from my laptop. I will certainly play League of Legends and DotA 2 and the Clevo P670SE would be overkill for these games....

When ordering my Origin PC Millenium (specs in sig), I ordered the Intel 750 PCIe SSD as it was the most expensive and I thought that it's the best. In benchmarks it does give some crazy numbers but many users are reporting a delayed boot by up to 25 seconds more due to the slow initialization during bootup of the PCIe SSD.

So, I have bricked my asus n76vz laptop with failed bios flashing. I spent hours googling for solutions and trying them out, but nothing seems to work.

Currently, the laptop does power up, disks start to work, fan is spinning, but screen stays black. Leds are blinking too. If i hold ctrl+home on power up, cd-rom starts reading.

Sometime ago I purchased, on reading this forum, a nvidia 68-m to replace the 560m I was running in my m17xr3, along with the heatsink required etc.

Now, I actually took it to a professional place to get installed, as I felt that would be safer than leaving it in my bungling hands, as I have little to no experience or expertise in these matters.

After some month of rather light usage (few-couple hrs a day), I just cannot find a way to fix the touchpad issue.

I'm getting mixed reports. Is there anyone out there with an AW 15 that doesn't Thermal Throttle on the CPU when the GPU is being taxed?

I'm not talking about power limit throttling which is a different issue.

my problem is the Wifi signal is unstable and very weak

it drops from 4-5 signal bars to only 1 bar, more like "spikes"

i am 2 meters away from the router and i am getting full signal bars on all my smart phones, laptops in same place

i change to the latest drivers but it didn't fix

changed wifi channel and it did increase the signal on my other devices except this laptop

Hi,

I've had my laptop since October and always checked CPU temps whilst gaming. It's never gone over 90 degrees before, but this week it's started hitting anywhere between 91 and 98! I've noticed it because HWiNFO shows them in red which it never did before.

I also can't run OCCT stress test because after 6 seconds it stops with a message "Core #x over maximuum value! Value reached 87 Max Value 85." This worries me as well.

Any ideas why this has happened?

For M6500 owners its very similar, but because of the 16:9 it seems a lot wider.

Non IPS HD screen seems very decent.

Maxwell is truly an amazing chip. Picked up an asus G750 with an 860m for some portable gaming aside from my 780ti sli desktop. With stock voltages and some tweaking i am able to match, or beat, the stock 870m and smoke the 770m. Check out my fire strike score, 4600 on the GPU. My max temps are in the upper 60's. Anyone else have an 860m? If i can get a modded vbios so i can change voltages I am sure I can take this thing to 880m levels.

NVIDIA Inspector prioritize temperature keeps resetting

Hello, I've a GTX 960m and when running NVIDIA Inspector the prioritize temperature is set at default 74C. Every time I change it , ether decreasing or increasing, it keeps resetting back to 74C. I was wondering why my temp stopped at 75C on every benchmark I run. Is the GTX 960m down-throtling itself? I want to increase my max temperature to 79C, but NVIDIA Inspector won't let me. Yet, NVIDIA Inspector let's me overclock the GPU core, memory, and voltage. I didn't...
