Moving to China and need a laptop

Here is my situation. I have received an entry-level job offer with an engineering consulting firm based in the US for their office in Shanghai, China. I will not be taking my desktop with me to China, and I will need a laptop in order to remain connected with my family and keep up-to-date on things outside China. I have had a laptop in the past for college, a Dell Inspiron 1520 or 1525 (don't remember which) which is now 7 years old.
